Prest Street residents organize after shooting
Prest Street residents are organizing after the Sept. 27 shooting that killed three people and injured four others, with community activists from Detroit 300 hearing residents' ideas on how to improve safety, WDIV Local 4 posted Thursday, Oct. 8. Police said the shooting broke out after a fight at a home operating as an illegal after-hours establishment. Ansley Harris Jr., Donahvan Gray and Kevin Scott were killed. Christopher Gouch, 25, faces 14 charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, four of assault with intent to murder and seven of felony firearm. WDIV's report says residents are pushing for a neighborhood association and blight removal.

Juvenile homicide victims fell from nine to one this summer
From June through August, Detroit police recorded one juvenile homicide victim, compared with nine in the same months of 2025, @metrodetroitnews posted Monday, Oct. 5. Overall homicides fell from 56 to 42, and juvenile nonfatal shooting victims from 23 to 18. Carjackings dropped 34.6%, vehicle thefts 17.2%, burglaries 13.3% and robberies 9.9%. Mayor Mary Sheffield and Police Chief Todd Bettison announced the figures Oct. 5 at the Adams Butzel Recreation Center and credited police work, community violence intervention and the city's Occupy the Summer program.

“The Voice of Whitney” at the Detroit Opera House
Whitney Houston's own account posted Monday, Oct. 5, that “The Voice of Whitney: A Symphonic Celebration” plays the Detroit Opera House Saturday, Oct. 10, with original and remastered recordings of her vocals set to new orchestrations. The feed carries one Ticketmaster listing for the show under both Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 11, and a separate Allevents listing under Friday, Oct. 9.
