Previewing 2027 construction: Traffic shift on I-94 will remain through winter, more work on I-696

WXYZ Detroit — 11/3/2026

Metro Detroit drivers face a mix of roadwork updates, with some relief coming as eastbound I-696 between M-10 and I-75 reopens before the end of the year. However, the traffic shift on I-94 between Wayne Road and Oakwood Boulevard will remain in place through late summer 2027. Additional I-94 work is expected in Detroit, including single-lane closures for bridge and pavement repairs, and preliminary reconstruction work in Macomb County. Furthermore, ramps from eastbound Davison to I-75 will close for several months. Looking ahead to next year, I-696 will see lane reductions between I-75 and Dequindre for repairs scheduled to finish by summer 2027. Local business owners and commuters are advised to find alternate routes to avoid significant delays.

Some relief is coming for metro Detroit drivers soon. But the traffic headaches will remain in place along I-94 in Wayne County.
